BunkFace are undoubtedly one of the best punk rock bands to have come out of the Malaysian music scene.
Jar Music Live had already foreseen this when, by unanimous decision by JMG executives, the band won the first ever 2009 Malaysia BreakOut event in Kuala Lumpar in Malaysia.
Over the past 2 years Jar's BreakOut showcases have delivered more than 5 signed bands and numerous success stories, demonstrating beyond any doubt or skepticism, the company's pledge to long term investment and development of unsigned bands – be it in the UK or abroad.
BunKFace continued to bear out the confidence placed in them by the execs, when they performed to an enthralled Maldives audience at JMG's Breakout Festival in December 2009. Working alongside the band's management, JMG begun the process to "BreakOut" the band to a wider audience. The first step was an Asian tour supporting Tokio Hotel (Winners of VMA for Best New Artist and EMA for Best Headliner), which provided the exposure that culminated in the performance at MTV's World Stage Live sharing the bill with Katy Perry and The Wonder Girls (Asia's Spice Girls)
This is a monumentous achievement and one that should not be underestimated.
The MTV World Live stage is broadcasted to over 550 Million people worldwide and artist who have graced this illustrious stage include Lady Gaga, Shakira, Kasabian, and Green Day – to mention a few.
This represents a launching pad from where Jar Music Group begun the next phase of Bunkface's media and profile development. BunkFace just finished their first UK tour promoting a brand new album release in May '10 called Phobia Phoney. Amongst the UK dates they also headlined the UK BreakOut shows at the O2 Academy Liverpool (30th Oct), O2 Academy Islington (31st Oct) and The Cavern Club in Liverpool (29th Oct).
BunKFace are made up of Vocalist Sam, bass guitarist Youk and lead guitarist Paan Their first song "Silly Lily" was No. 1 on FLY FM's Campur Chart for an astounding 10 weeks in a row. They stormed on to the local scene when they won 3 Shout! Awards.
BunKFace then went on to win Most Popular Group/Duo award at Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian 2009. The band continued to gain accolades in 2010, winning an AVIMA award for Best Rock Vocalist. At the 2010 AIM17 Awards, they picked up Best Rock Song for "Situasi" and the Anugerah Kembara, an award for Jar Music BreakOut event, which honors musicians who have taken their music beyond Malaysian shores. This unstoppable group recently released their first full-album Phobia Phoney in March. The band's most popular songs include "Bunk Anthem," "Extravaganza," and "Prom Queen".
